FG Resuscitates NSSEC To Improve Secondary School Education

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Education has approved the resuscitation of the National Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) Act 1999 Cap.No.73 LFN 2004 to oversee the affairs of Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

The Act according to the Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Benjamin Abakpa, was enacted to prescribe national minimum standards for secondary education throughout Nigeria, manage the national secondary education fund, and for matters connected therewith.

Benjamin Abakpa who was speaking in Bauchi on Thursday during an advocacy and sensitisation forum for the North-East subregion lamented that the Commission has not been operational since its enactment despite the fact that Secondary Education is pivotal to academic excellence and low-level manpower which forms the bedrock to National Development.
